Compact: MasterCraft X20

MasterCraft’s X20 is a stylish little boat with signature MasterCraft quality and craftsmanship, but the real story here is the surf wave. For a 20-foot hull, this surf wave is phenomenal. You won’t believe how far back it extends. The Gen 2 system creates an equal wave on either side, so you don’t have to worry about which side you surf, and the wave’s push with the 2,000 pounds of ballast is really impressive. Gen 2 gives you presets with steep and mellow characteristics so you can surf right away, but you can also customize the presets to create you own unique wave. The whole Gen 2 interface is integrated into the X20’s touch screen, so your driver is in complete control from the helm. Wake shaping, lighting, ballast, speed control, audio and much more are all contained within this powerful little digital helm. The whole interior on the X20 is solid. Innovation meets aesthetics for a stunning effect on passengers. Seats are contoured for maximum ergonomics; transom seats flip up for rider staging and swimming; and the convertible rear bench seat takes the standard wraparound lounge to stadium seating or an extra sun pad quickly and easily. The ZFT4 tower is also standout. Not only is the look next level, the functionality is ideal, with two handles that unlock it and an easy fold function that lets you pull the fully loaded tower down or up with minimal effort.

Dig This: In addition to traditional gull-wing storage, MasterCraft went with a system that brings up the entire sun pad as a single piece. You get the best of both worlds with the X20: single gull-wing-hatch access and full motor-box access for easy service to the Ilmor engine.

Stat: It’s no surprise the X20 has such a stellar wave because MasterCraft designed it from the very outset to be a swell-producing beast of a surfboat. This was the only boat in the line specifically designed to surf, and it was so successful that the X23 was designed in the same vein.
