Trent Thomas

Trent Thomas isn’t someone you’ve heard of, unless you’ve been reading the tiny type in Random Notes and scanning the results pages. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that Trent sent us an entry in our Star Search contest. That amateur video caught our attention and earned him co-winner status. From there he blazed a victorious run at the INT Boardstock East event, busted a few good moves at Nationals to earn a respectable seventh-place finish and went to the Worlds his first year in competition. Not bad for a local guy from a small lake with a big heart and a bigger talent for wakeboarding. But then again, that’s how Lavelle started.
How old are you?
21 July 1997.

Where do you ride?
I ride a lot on Buckeye Lake in Ohio with my friends. Also on Nickayle Lake Sports Limited Proshop’s private lake, and my family owns a summer place on the Muskingum River in southeastern Ohio. Muskingum is great once it settles down after the summer.

What got you into wakeboarding?
I skied and kneeboarded since I was 8 – wakeboarding was just the next progression – the way I wanted to go.

What words describe your style?
Very aggressive, explosive and large. No spins for me …. I hate 360s and 540s. Wakeboarding is all about huge inverts with a sweet grab.

Who keeps you stoked on wakeboarding the most?
My friends Troy and Travis definitely. We go out and ride every day and push each other.

Favorite food?
Any type of pasta – spaghetti, pizza, lasagna, ravioli, stuff like that.

Philosophy?
Life’s too short to have fear.

Who are your influences?
Darin Shapiro and Parks Bonifay.

Is there any one thing people should know about you?
Yes. I’m not stuck-up, just very shy.

Lucky number?
27.

What do you do when you’re not wakeboarding?
Snowboard, play Sony Play Station, jump on the trampoline and hang out with my girlfriend, Jessica.

What are your future goals?
To ride with the big boys.
