Gainesville, Florida (October 23, 2004) – While bands rocked the shoreline all day, the University of Florida’s Wakeboard Club held their fourth annual Wakefest on UF’s private lake, Lake Wauberg. Any rider could sign up to take a sesh behind the Malibu Wakesetter, which the team won two years ago.
If not for the pull, then the laid-back environment complete with Red Bull tent and Love Sacs, and the free barbecue and energy drinks made the event well worth attending. Riders from Florida State University, University of Central Florida, Rollins College, and Devry University were among the wakeboarders and wakeskaters who came out to throw down.
“We do the event as a fundraiser for the wakeboard club,” UF rider Scott Hopkins said. “As far as the turn out and everyone having fun, it’s probably the best year we’ve ever had.”
“They set up this cool slip and slide and everyone went off on that,” Kyle Hyams said. “We wakeskated it behind the mini bikes for a while, but whenever anyone fell or hit the ground, it hurt so much. It was like the slip and slide of death!”
The party continued on into the night at The Swamp, one of Gainsville’s most popular bars. The beer never stopped flowing and everyone got hooked up with free Red Bull and vodka all night.
