Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour Rides into 25th Season in 2017

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2017)—The Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour, the longest-running professional wakeboard competition circuit in the country, will visit new markets this summer as part of its 25th-anniversary season. The top 16 professional men wakeboarders in the world will once again compete for the coveted championship at events in four world-class venues from May to August.

Dates and locations for the 2017 Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour are:

  • NEW May 12-13: Oak Mountain State Park, Birmingham, Ala. – Alabama’s largest state park features a picturesque setting, many outdoor activities and a beautiful sand beach.
  • NEW June 24: Mantua Reservoir, Mantua, Utah – An hour north of Salt Lake City, this popular lake transforms into the perfect water sports venue for the area’s sizable contingent of wake fans.
  • July 22: Memorial Park, Colorado Springs, Co. – Gorgeous views and a huge crowd are a guaranteed at Memorial Park, last seen on the tour in 2011.
  • NEW Aug. 12: Voice of America MetroPark, West Chester, Ohio – For the final event of the season, this park offers the finest audience amenities in addition to top-notch water conditions conveniently located just north of Cincinnati.

“This is the strongest venue line-up for the Pro Wakeboard Tour in years,” said Rick Tinker, president of Supra Boats, title sponsor of the tour. “Each lake is ideal, with perfect water conditions for our athletes and comfortable amenities for the audience. We are thrilled to launch the next 25 years of the Pro Wakeboard Tour in these beautiful locations with some of the most avid water sports fans across the country.”

The eight highest-ranked competitors from 2016 pre-qualify for the 2017 tour, leaving eight spots reserved for the best performances at the qualifying event on May 12. Pre-qualified riders include Mike Dowdy (2016 overall winner) and Supra Team riders Nic Rapa (2016 Rookie of the Year) and Cory Teunissen.

In addition to high-flying wakeboard action, the Supra Boats Pro Wakesurf Tour brings one of the hottest up-and-coming sports in North America to each city. Wakesurfing—riding the boat’s wake without the help of a towrope—saw an astonishing 30 percent year-over-year growth from 2012 to 2015, according to the Water Sports Industry Association.

The Supra Boats SA550 is the official tow boat for the tour again in 2017. Purpose-built to create clean, consistent and controlled wakes, it is designed to push athletes to new levels while preserving strict handling and a balanced ride for those onboard.

New for 2017, each Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour event will be livestreamed online for national viewing.
