Wakeboarding’s Best Put on a Show For Day One of The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour

Monroe, Wa. – Wakeboarding’s top athletes treated fans in the Pacific Northwest to an impressive display of competitive riding during the first day of the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour presented by Rockstar Energy Drink in Monroe. With weather cooperating throughout the day, neck-to-neck heats were put in by the Pro Men, Pro Women and Junior Pro Men.

Keeping the best rivalry in wakeboarding alive, Harley Clifford and Phil Soven once again brought their A-game today. Both riders put in stellar performances that coupled massive airs with highly-technical rail maneuvers and will advance to tomorrow’s elimination rounds. Also, with his eye on victory at Lake Tye, Rusty Malinoski put together an ultra-progressive run to win his heat and reserve a spot in the semifinals.

The pro women came to Monroe on a mission as well. Raimi Merritt gave one of the runs of the day, posting a division-high 86.67 and looks to be a favorite in tomorrow’s finals. Meagan Ethell also showcased some world-class riding posting a heat winning score of 86.67 and will definitely be a factor in the finals.

“It’s always great to bring the Tour to the west coast,” said Chris Bischoff, contest director. “Monroe is a great venue and the fans saw some really progressive riding in all of the divisions today.”

The Junior Pro Men have been giving next-level performances all season long and today was no different. Mike Dowdy kept his season-long dominance going, posting a day one high-score of 98.00. Jacob Valdez matched Dowdy’s performance also posting a 98.00, both riders will be top contenders in tomorrow’s elimination rounds.

Thousands of spectators are expected to flock to Lake Tye tomorrow to watch the final day elimination rounds and awards ceremony. Following the final rounds of competition, fans can stay and witness the jaw-dropping Rockstar Double Up Contest and Sony Big Air Contest. The events will feature top athletes performing exciting and innovative new tricks that aren’t typically attempted in a traditional contest setting.

In addition to all the on water action; on land, fans will enjoy plenty of great food; athlete autograph signings; chances to win freebies; product sampling, and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions. At the Pro Tour’s entertainment stage, guests can catch athlete interviews, color commentators and interactive live music.

Saturday will be a ticketed event beginning at 10 a.m. Tickets are available at the gate: $13 (adult); $5 (ages 6-12); free (ages 5 and under); or $7 (adult) if purchased online.
