Ilmor Marine engines are now an option on MasterCraft wakeboard boats. In fact, MasterCraft Boats was the recipient of the first-ever engines to roll off the line at Ilmor Marine’s brand-new headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina.
The new 50,000-square-foot marine engine assembly and test facility, which had been under construction since 2008, is capable of producing up to 15,000 engines per year. Ilmor, which also produces engines for Indy car racing, NASCAR, and off-road desert racing, began producing high-performance marine engines in 2002. With the new facility, Ilmor has turned its sights to the inboard boat market, starting with MasterCraft.
“We made the decision to enter the inboard market in 2007,” says Ilmor President Paul Ray. “Since then, our staff has worked flat-out on engine design and development, in-water testing, engine integration and facility construction. The new facility allows us to expand into higher-volume markets, with an initial focus upon our key partner, MasterCraft, the lead manufacturer of luxury performance inboards.”
MasterCraft will offer Ilmor’s 5.7-, 6-, and 6.2-liter freshwater and saltwater engines as an option in all of its wakeboarding boats.
