DALLAS (Jan. 3) – Some of the top regional and pro wakeboarders in the world will be descending on Gilley’s Dallas, Feb. 11, to participate in Boardshorts, Bulls and Bikinis presented by Malibu Boats. The one-of-a-kind event will feature a wakeboard pool-gap rail jam contest followed by a bull riding rodeo on Gilley’s legendary mechanical bull and to top it all off…bikini bull riding.
The development of the high-speed, gas-powered winch is one of the newest and most exciting progressions in wakeboarding’s young history. It has given riders, who are pulled by winches, the ability to take their sport to the streets with the use of portable pools, separated by rails and sliders. Called a Pool-Gap or a Rail Jam, this is action sports up-close and in-your-face and it’s as exciting for the riders as it is for spectators.
Sliding or grinding on rails has been a part of wakeboarding for the past few years but until now it has all happened behind a boat on a lake. Now, instead of watching the riders from 100 yards away on the shore, spectators can be just a few feet from the action.
Boardshorts, Bulls and Bikinis will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the legendary Gilley’s honky-tonk. Already scheduled to appear are pro riders Shane Bonifay and Tino Santori (representing the Liquid Force Pro Team), Chad Sharpe and Brian Grubb (representing the Malibu Pro Team) and one of the pioneers of the sport … Scott Byerly (representing the Reef Pro team). They will be joined by top regional riders including Brian Sasser, Richie McKee, Joey Arcisz, Gabe Lucas, Joey Bradley, Tom Fooshee and Andrew Dyrhood. The event starts at 8 p.m. and is open to anyone 18 or older. Gilley’s is located at 1135 South Lamar just south of downtown Dallas. For more information, visit www.texaswakeboardtour.com.
In addition to Malibu Boats, the event is backed by Nissan North America, Liquid Force Wakeboards, Alliance Wakeboard, Reef Clothing, Texas Boating Magazine, Spy Optic, Ten 80 Clothing, Straight Line, Body Glove and Water Ski America.
