PB’s Double or Nothing

Clear skies and calm water provided the perfect setting for riders to throw down at the second annual Parks’ Double Or Nothing Double Up Contest in Lake Alfred, Florida, on May 3. Red Bull, MasterCraft Boats and Fox Riders Co. all helped make the event happen, which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable events ever for both the riders and media alike.

With lots of off-water activities to complement the action off the huge X-Star wake, the venue set up at Betty Bonifay’s house was tip-top. 13 riders rolled dice to determine the running order, including new invitees Rusty Malinoski, Andrew Adkison and Phillip Soven.

The main awards will be announced on Friday night for “Best Trick” and “Biggest Air.” The riders will vote and Shane Bonifay is busy editing together many of the crazy moves so everybody can get a better look.

For Best Trick, some of the standout moves were Danny Harf’s heelside cab 900, which he stuck cleanly with lots of style; Phillip Soven’s heelside 900, which he also stuck cleanly; and Andrew Adkison’s heelside nosegrab mobe 540, which he held the grab on and then booted huge and landed solid. Soven might have had a chance to win the category hands down when he rotated a switch toeside 1080 and landed solid with the handle. But the handle popped out of his hand and he slowly coasted away without it.

The Biggest Air award is fun for riders to go after because Parks said that the rider doesn’t have to actually ride away to claim the title. Among the moves under considered are title holder Chad Sharpe’s tail and indy glides, Rusty Malinoski’s glide, Parks’ bat wing-type airs and Gator’s huge tantrum to fakie, which was reminiscent of old-school Gator going big, which is still fresh in everyone’s memory.

The public is welcome to attend the Parks’ Double Or Nothing awards party at House of Blues in downtown Disney in Orlando on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. sharp. The bands Slightly Stoopid and Fishbone will be rocking the house and Parks told his boys to dress sharp and be ready for a fun evening. Tickets are $14-$16 and can be purchased at http://www.houseofblues.com or at the box office located at 1490 E. Buena Vista Dr. Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830, or by calling 407-934-BLUE.
