Sanger Boats

SANGER MANUFACTURER PROFILE OVERVIEW Back in 1954, when Jack Davidson worked in the muffler business he became consumed with a boat building hobby that transformed his profession. After building and successfully selling several performance racing boats it was time to focus 100 percent on building the best boat he could. After moving to Sanger, CA, hence the name “Sanger Boats,” he soon became recognized as a premiere racing boat manufacturer. Not wanting to stop there, Jack began to build family boats and day cruisers in the mid-to-late ’70s, and by the early 1980s he had built his first tournament ski boat. This first stern-drive ski boat was AWSA (American Water Ski Association) approved in all events – barefoot, slalom, tricks and jump. Jack also built the first outboard approved for barefoot and three-event skiing, the Barefoot Skier. In fact, Sanger boats was the only boat company to have three all-event approved boats in their line. Jack’s children, Mike and Kathy Davidson, now own Sanger boats. CONSTRUCTION Sanger Boats builds about 400 boats per year. And, while this may sound like a relatively small production operation compared to some of the giants in the business, there’s a definite method to their operation. “Without trying to sound clich’#8221; says Director of Marketing Scott Pellaton, “Sanger boats are truly the model or the mold for building quality boats. We only build one boat at a time so we can guarantee quality and complete control of every product. Mike Davidson, the company’s president, inspects, shrink wraps and loads every boat onto the trailer himself. If we were interested in expanding or mass production, he wouldn’t be able to do those things. We know we can offer quality with no hassles this way, and we like our production process just the way it is.” ENGINES Sanger offers MerCruiser engines. The boats come standard with MerCruiser’s 5.7L 260-hp engine. However, if you feel like you just want more power, don’t be afraid to opt up to the 350 Mag MPI 315-hp, the Black Scorpion 330-hp or the 6.2 MX 340-hp engines. MerCruiser provides owners with the security of a 7,000-plus worldwide network of servicing dealers, over 3,000 of which are in the U.S. alone. DEALERS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE Because Sanger builds 80 percent of their boats in-house, they truly offer control of the manufacturing process. With that kind of control, they say it is easier to take care of the customer. “It gives us a lot more control to service our customers,” Pellaton explains. “The constant backbone of our company is that we build one boat at a time. That’s why you get such a great product. We’re not striving for anything else other than trying to build a great custom boat. And we believe it’s difficult for other manufacturers to say that.” WARRANTY Sanger encourages their dealers to be certified, and they lean on their manufacturers’ process to avoid warranty claims altogether. However, in case one needs assistance, they have available representatives at both of their facilities to answer questions and assist with problems.
