What’s updog.?

We interviewed producer Ronnie Romero about his latest wake film, updog., in the March 2007 issue. Here’s the full transcript from our chat, some more shots from filming, and the trailer.

What’s the name all about? It all started with an episode of The Office. Jim and Pam pulled the “updog” joke on Michael. Of course, he fell for it. It was hilarious as he tried getting the rest of the office to fall for it. Anyway, the next week, a bunch of us headed down to Lake of the Ozarks for a contest. Spawned from either that episode or third grade, updog became the word of the weekend. You know how every trip you take with buddies ends up having some word or catch phrase that gets totally beat over the course of the trip? Well, that weekend it was updog. While at a bar in the Ozarks, I think it was Corey Bradley’s suggestion that I should name my next video updog and there it was born. The joke is very un-funny now. I’m over it.

This is only your third wake film. How’d you go about lining up so much riding talent? The other two were more grassroots projects for me that focused on promoting Nebraska riding, Nebraska music, and the Nebraska lifestyle. Although I did feature some top name riders in both previous films. The problem I found with these videos is
